Based in Feira de Santana, Bahia. Brazilian legal matters involving clients in Brazil or abroad.
What needs to be resolved?
Property
Buying or selling property in Brazil? Review title records, ownership, contracts and powers of attorney before committing to the transaction. We also address property regularisation and leases.
Rural land has specific rules for foreign buyers and tenants. A Brazilian company does not automatically remove those restrictions.
Family and inheritance
Marriage, separation or inheritance may involve property or business interests in more than one country. We review the Brazilian legal issues and the documents needed for the proposed steps.
A foreign marriage, divorce or inheritance document may require further steps before it can be used in Brazil.
Tax and assets
Moving to Brazil, receiving rental income, selling property or transferring family assets can raise different tax questions. Tax residence, the nature of the income and the documents matter.
Brazil–China tax treaty provisions require case-specific analysis. They are not a general exemption from Brazilian taxes.
A clear scope for your situation
The first contact identifies the issue, the location of the people and assets, and any actual deadline. The office then explains the documents required, the proposed scope and the consultation fees. Where necessary, the legal analysis is coordinated with accounting, translation or advice from a professional qualified in the other country.
The office provides Brazilian legal services. The language of meetings and any interpreting or translation arrangements are confirmed before scheduling.
Common questions
Can the initial consultation be arranged remotely?
Yes. The need for an in-person act or specific representation depends on the matter and will be explained before the relevant step.
Can I buy rural land under the same rules as an apartment?
No. Foreign acquisition and leasing of rural land have specific restrictions and requirements. The property and the buyer’s circumstances must be reviewed before committing.
Does a Chinese document automatically have effect in Brazil?
Not necessarily. Depending on the document and its intended use, authentication, apostille, a public translation, registration or recognition may be required.
Does owning property make me a Brazilian tax resident?
Property ownership alone does not settle tax residence. Entry into Brazil, employment, permanence and other applicable conditions must be analysed.
Will the office handle Chinese law as well?
The office’s work concerns Brazilian law. If the matter requires advice under Chinese law, that part must be reviewed by a professional qualified in that jurisdiction.
